Portfolio / Summary of completed projects

Here you will find my most recent web projects that have reached a suitable stage of completion.

JB1 SOM Website When asked by a local business to redesign their existing website (then a table-based, non-standards compliant, plain, text-only website), a new site was created in conjunction with the client that was in keeping with existing corporate themes yet harnesses the latest Web technologies to provide a media-rich homepage. The site uses image slideshows, interactive maps and various other technologies that make it SEO and accessibility friendly.

JB1 SOM Website Built for a local school of motoring, JB1SOM was created firstly as a marketing exercise for the company, giving it an instant online presence that will help generate custom; but also act as a useful resource for existing JB1 students with trivia, Q&A and other facilities, links and resources to aid any would-be-driver pass those all important driving tests.

Working closely with the proprietor of the company, the website was designed and built to specification, hosting packages (via a 3rd party) were arranged, the domain name purchased and the site put live all inclusive in the service provided by leedjones.co.uk. The site also benefits from ongoing maintenance and updates as required.

The FocusOnCareers website was created in conjunction with a design agency and local government to provide a valuable resource for further education and guidance to school-leavers unsure about which vocation to follow into higher education. The site was created as a standards compliant, cross-browser website to tight client specification and uses XHTML, CSS and Javascript to create a contemporary platform for information and resource downloads for students.

Gloucestershire College, in association with Wiltshire and Swindon County Councils; and cornucopia designs commissioned the site which is now live and used by hundreds of students throughout the region.

When Postcomm (the postal services commission) requested a redesign of their Intranet, they specified the system should provide a corporate feel and make use of the latest web technologies to assist maintenance of the site by untrained staff.

Hence, the intranet was constructed using standards compliant HTML, AJAX and incorporated an XML data back-end that could be user maintained through a WYSIWYG content editor. The site used advanced caching techniques to ensure the performance of the Intranet remained at its optimum and several usability enhancements were made that allowed the Postcomm staff to manage the site without assistance or any knowledge other than the supplied user manual.
Some SQL Server integration was necessary (future proofing for potential later developments, but the XML back-end and standards compliant front-end makes the Intranet both accessible and interoperable with all future internal developments at Postcomm.

SAFC Thumbnail Created for a local football club who felt a Web presence would enhance the clubs profile, Sebastopolafc.co.uk provides a complete web front end to site visitors coupled with a complex CMS and database driven back-end for the site contributors.
After liaising with the club it became apparent that few club members had the knowledge or time to maintain any HTML code. In fact, the club needed a site that could be maintained by those with minimal computing experience and no understanding of HTML itself.
It was therefore agreed that a CMS (Content Management System) would be implemented to automate the presentation and layout of code to an agreed custom site template. This then allows the site to provide multi-level access to club members, allowing them to contribute to the site without needing to worry about the presentation of the articles they are presenting.
A three-tiered user level access system is deployed to allow different personnel to delegate access to the site as administrators, contributors or article authors.

This allows the club to host their own professional quality website and maintain its content without the need to enter a single line of code.
WWW image There are a number of projects ongoing at various stages of development, including work for a local driving school providing them with a website that will allow them to ‘sell’ the school to customers and book lessons/tuition online; a commerce website for as web-based power-tool trading start-up; and a number of non-commercial coding projects. Details of these will be provided when it becomes feasible to publish and/or when the respective websites go live.
